Associate Programme
The associate programme is a multi-media course aimed at those with some experience of ballet. It stimulates interest in the modern ballet repertoire and develops skills of critical analysis.
During 2003, students participated in a series of master classes, video study and lecture/workshops that explored the development of ballet between the 15th and 19th centuries. This culminated in a 'studio performance' illustrating 400 years of ballet history. In 2005 the programme considered the input and immense influence of Diaghilev and his Ballets Russes during the twentieth century and beyond. Those taking part were given the chance to perform alongside the company, in Ballet Ireland¹s production of 'Le Sacre Du Printemps', at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
The programme for 2006 concentrated on late nineteenth century ballet, focusing mainly on various productions of 'The Sleeping Beauty'. Participants were able to contrast styles and developments in the performance of this work, as well as study in some detail the 'traditional' choreography. Again, students performed alongside Ballet Ireland in the full-length 'A Christmas Carol'.
In 2007, 'The Nutcracker' was the chosen subject matter; participants explored the history of this perennial favourite and contrasted several productions of the ballet, including a couple of the very Avant Garde. They were granted backstage access whist the company performed in Dublin and were able to interview several company members.
2008 sees the completion of the Tchaikovsky Triptych, with an in depth look at 'Swan Lake', which Ballet Ireland are producing for performance at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin and a nationwide tour.
